Questionnaire Results from Part 1

• It was useful as I learned about issues and countermeasures related to sudden medical emergencies involving elderly people and others, including points I would not have thought of on my own.
• I agreed with the suggestion that there be a room for interaction between older people and those with children, but someone strongly disagreed. It made me keenly aware of the need to consider the gap between the ideal situation and the current reality.
• The discussion moved so efficiently, and I felt overwhelmed because I am not very good at thinking about issues in a comprehensive way. The discussion about dividing evacuation shelter spaces by age groups was interesting because opinions about which ages should be given special consideration, such as what age should be considered “elderly,” or up to what age children and their families should be given separate rooms.
• Expressing the perspectives of vulnerable groups such as women was difficult, as it required putting myself in their position. Since I have no direct experience of earthquakes or evacuation shelters, it was also challenging to simulate the actual circumstances. However, the insights shared by a teammate who had experienced a major earthquake were extremely helpful.
• I was in Tohoku, and evacuation shelter management—where tasks are divided into “men’s work” and “women’s work”—was exactly as described in the lecture. That approach also has merit, as it allows management to be carried out efficiently and quickly.
