Yonemitsu Aoi (Kobe University)

(an excerpt from her speech at the farewell party)

I have so many memories of this course and I have so many things I want to say. Before this course started, we Kobe University engineering students were very worried about whether we would be able to understand the lectures and express our opinions. We were all nervous. But after taking a few classes, we got used to this kind of lecture and I was able to answer questions without hesitating.

When the group work started, Georgia Tech students were all kind to us and tried very hard to understand what we wanted to say. They told me that they liked aspects of Japanese culture that I'm not so keen on. This made me very happy. Prof. Woodall and the other professors gave us a lot of pieces of advice. I was very surprised that Prof. Woodall knew more about Japanese politics than me. While taking the classes, I thought I should actively participate and felt I wanted to give my opinion more, even though I couldn't speak English correctly. This made me realize that I liked this style of class. I was already interested in studying abroad before taking this course, but my experiences on this course have increased my motivation to do so. Thank you Georgia Tech professors for coming to Kobe and giving us interesting lectures. Also, I'm really grateful to the Georgia Tech students. They worked hard and helped KU students in order to make the course work. It was also lots of fun to go out and talk with them during the break. It was really interesting to learn about American youth culture and slang. They are so "cool" because they study hard and play hard. Thank you so much. I had an unforgettable time.
