Yuki SEKINE (Section Head of Program Coordination Section)
Professor, Graduate School of Law
Born in Brussels, Belgium. Prof. Sekine graduated from the Faculty of Law of the Université Libre de Bruxelles (ULB, Licenciée en droit), and the Graduate School of Law and Politics of the University of Tokyo (Master in Law). She specializes in Social Security Law, with an emphasis on Migrant Workers, Minimum income protection and activation policies in the EU and Japan.She has worked for the International Labour Organization (ILO) Headquarters in Geneva, Switzerland, in detachment to the Japanese Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare, and the ILO Tokyo Office, before joining Kobe University in 2004.

Kentaro IWATSUBO (Deputy Section Head of Program Coordination Section)
Professor, Graduate School of Economics
Professor Iwatsubo obtained Ph.D. in Economics from University of California, Los Angeles, and M.A. in Economics from the Graduate School of Economics of the University of Tokyo. Prior to accepting current position, he served as Assistant Professor at the Institute of Economics Research, Hitotsubashi University. He had experiences to research at IMF, Cass business School, London, University of Michigan, and Fuji Research Institute. He specializes in Finance and International Finance.

Gianluca GATTA
Project Associate Professor (Culture and Society)
Italian. Ph.D. (Anthropology), University of Naples “L’Orientale”. M.A. in International and Diplomatic Sciences, University of Naples “L’Orientale”. Professor Gatta specialises in anthropology and sociology of human mobility, with an emphasis on the Euro-mediterranean region. Prior to accepting his current position, he taught Anthropology of Development at the University of Naples “L’Orientale”, Cultural Anthropology at the University of Calabria and Sociology at the University of Naples “Federico II”. He is also founder and secretary of the Archive of migrant memories association, based in Rome.

Turkish. Ph.D. in Political Science in Kobe University. M.A. in International Public Policy, Osaka University. B.A. in International Relations in Bilkent University, Turkey. Participated in Erasmus Exchange Program in University of Turku, Finland (European Union Studies). Received intensive Japanese language education in Osaka University of Foreign Languages. Former intern at United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (UN OCHA) Kobe Office. Prior to her current position she was a lecturer in Kansai University of International Studies. Her native language is Turkish, but she is fluent in English and Japanese. She specializes in International Relations, Japan’s security policy, European Union politics and foreign policy.

Eva HANADA (formerly BANINCOVA)
Associate Professor (Economics)
Slovak. Ph.D. (Economics), Kyushu University. M.A. in Economics, Kyushu University. B.A. in Business Studies, City University London. She specializes in European Union integration, European financial sector, and the economies of the new Member States. She worked for two Japanese companies (International Trade Department of Kuretake Co., Ltd./ Export Sales Executive of Kuretake UK Ltd. and Management Committee of Yazaki Slovakia) prior to her postgraduate studies under the Japanese Government Academic Scholarship at Kyushu University. She joined Kobe University in 2010 and attained her current position in 2014.

Tsutomu HASHIDA
Associate Professor (Academic Coordinator)
B.A. (Italian) Osaka University of Foreign Studies, M.Sc. (Western European politics) the University of London (LSE). Following his postgraduate study in England, he made an internship at the European Commission (DG Industry) in 1994. In Brussels, he engaged in extensive research on European affairs at Japanese trading firms and diplomatic mission to the European Union. He came back to Japan in 2005 and then worked for Tokyo Institute of Technology and other institutions in university internationalization as well as educational support for study abroad and global internship before taking his current position in 2018. His areas of expertise include intercultural education and European integration.
